Are you sure HBO is included in this? The onscreen message from DirecTV only mentioned the Cinemax free trial. The same goes for the DIRECTV News feed on their website.
There’s a cinemax free trial this weekend (August 17-20). Are you sure you aren’t confusing the dates?
This one is in addition the Cinemax one coming up this weekend.

Once Friday hits (as of 12 midnight) the channels will open up even if they’re not now. So go ahead and dvr the shows and movies you want to watch. They will all record starting friday

Previews always start and end at 3am Pacific, at least for me.
It’s not letting me DVR any movies – it says I don’t have the current programming on my account. I think this isn’t really a “free preview”, especially since we just had this a month ago.
0340 EST and still not working. Also, you cannot record anything until it’s up.
It’s 1:15am PDT and Cinemax hasn’t come on yet, but I’ll give it ’til 3am and see what happens then!
EST it starts 6:00 am Friday and ends 6:00 am Tuesday, I’m getting HBO and SUNDANCE, but not CINEMAX.
It starts 6:00 am Friday in the east and ends 6:00 am Tuesday. It’s now 6:48 am. I’m getting HBO and Sundance, but not Cinemax
As of 6:20 CST, HBO is working, but Cinemax is not.
