Possible 4-Month Free Preview of HBO for Verizon FIOS

Free Preview Begins: Now
Free Preview Ends: May 31, 2013 (Friday)

I got an interesting email from a reader who who got an email from his provider, Verizon FIOS. In the email, he’s told that he’ll be getting a free preview of the whole family of HBO channels now through May 31.  Wow!

I’m not sure if this free preview is only for certain Verizon FIOS customers or for all of them. Did you receive this email? Are you getting free HBO? Leave a comment below letting me know.

  1. I got the email a few days ago, but the preview started sometime last week. The great thing about the offer is that it’s not a “you have to call us to cancel or you’ll be charged the full cost when the preview is over” deal. The email states they’ll remove HBO from our package unless we call to subscribe. Not sure if everyone got it (it sounded like a “thank you for your loyalty” deal).

  2. I received a notice from Verizon through my TV messages that I’m getting free Showtime and TMC through May 31 for being a loyal customer. I already subscribe to HBO.

  3. Verizon FIOS provided free HBO to customers in the Tampa Florida area from sometime in early November until the end of January. They just got around to turning it off yesterday. So it’s probably real

  4. I received a similar email from FIOS for Showtime until the end of May. I already subscribe to HBO and Cinemax. It’s interesting that FIOS is offering different premium channel previews based on current subscriptions. No complaints from me! 5 years of loyalty results in a $48 thank you!

  5. I got the email earlier this week, but the free preview started earlier (it was actually listed on my last statement). I’m guessing it’s not for everyone and might depend on how long you’ve been a customer. I have a family member who’s been a Fios subscriber for about a year and did not get it. I’ve had Fios for about 4 years.

  6. I got that email this week stating free HBO till may for being a loyal customer. I thought I was getting this due to router hardware issue I called in about and wasn’t happy that their answer was for me to buy an extra router. Figured they thought I might start shopping around so they offered the free HBO till May, lol.

  7. I just read about the free preview of HBO
the announcement said now (2/14/13) turned to my HBO channel and it not turned on yet.. or will it ???

  8. I live in a suburb of Philadelphia. Never received a message. No access to HBO.

  9. I can confirm that this free preview is for FiOS customers who have had service for upwards of two years.

  10. I did not get an email and do not currently have a free preview of hbo. I’ve been a FIOS customer from the Philadelphia area for over 2 years. Perhaps that’s not long enough for a loyalty reward?

  11. We here in Rockaway Park, which was socked by Hurricane Sandy and just had out services restored, have no such free preview.

  12. Thank you for sharing this, Verizon never had me signed up for email updates so I called them for it!

  13. Nope, wouldnt do it for me, been a Verizon customer for 5 years and have NEVER paid late but they said no – Im getting sick of them – I get NOTHING from them…

  14. OK, I got the “loyal customer” email and the free HBO preview after being with FIOS for a year in Sarasota, FL. Interestingly, the free HBO preview coincides exactly with the fact that my rate will probably go up starting next month because my first year at the lower rate is now over. So I think they gave this to me to keep me happy so I’ll stay with them despite the upcoming rate increase.

  15. I didn’t get a notice, and I’m not able to see any HBO stations. I’m in the NYC area and I don’t subscribe to any premium stations. I’ve had fiOS for a little over a year, so I must not be a loyal customer (although I’ve had Verizon for my whole life).

You can find comments about this if you search in the Verizon forums for “HBO.” Also see http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r27970458-Free-HBO-is-this-for-real- .

  16. I’m in Southern California and subscribe to show time. Been a customer for four years. Don’t know if I got an email but I am getting the free HBO preview.

  17. I’m not getting HBO here in the Dallas, TX area, but I just scrolled through my channel listings and so far it looks like we’re getting the Movie Channel, FLIX, and Encore/Starz. I never got a notice, and I don’t know how long we’ll be getting these channels.

  18. I never got an email but I do have HBO. I have been a FIOS customer for more than 2 years. I thought maybe my kids ordered it by mistake. Curious!

  19. I got a free subscription to HBO from December til the end of January. They just got around to taking it back off a day or 2 ago. However, when I go to the HBO channels and hit the “OK” button to susbscribe there is no amount next to the “$” symbol, as if it was free. Could that possibly mean its free?

  20. I’m in the Southern Calif area. Got the email the other day and have all of the HBO channels. Pretty cool.

  21. Customer for one year only, no message or email for HBO – no access to HBO for
Eastern MASS – I wouldn’t click on the OK button to subcribe. (Just my opinion)

  22. I received the 4-month free preview. I told a friend about this and after calling Verizon, they told him that HBO submitted a list of customers to Verizon for people to receive this special.

  23. yes we got it i ready verizon free hbo movie stuff for feb 2013 and end may 31-2013

  24. Been a subscriber for 6 yrs, got the email last week, and after cancelling all my premium channels last month, i now have hbo and hbogo again for free

  25. Didn’t get anything here in NY. They better give me something, had fios for 3 and a half years now.

  26. We are getting the free preview – the message appeared on the TV – good through end of May. We have had Fios for over 2 yrs. Is HBO-On-Demand free during free trial?

  27. Never got an email from them, didn’t know about anyone in Tampa having it until the end of January. I was one of the first in Tampa to have FIOS when it was put in back in 2005. My contract runs out next month. Time for me to look elsewhere.

  28. I also got the email and the on-screen notification of the free HBO. It includes HBO On-Demand, too. Even though the email didn’t say anything about it, I can also see the HD versions of many of the other movie channels, too (Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, etc.). Strangely, I can’t see the SD versions of those non-HBO channels, nor access the on-demand content.

  29. I live in the Dallas area, and we got the email around Thanksgiving, saying we would have free HBO through the end of 2012. It lasted even longer, but eventually they turned it off. I even called to verify they wouldn’t charge me. The tech guys said it was on my service as “HBO complementary”, so there was absolutely no charge. Perhaps those that haven’t received the email will get it in a few months.

  30. Regarding HBO on-demand, in December I found that the on-demand movies would say “free with subscription”, and if I went in further, it would say I’m not subscribed. But then in January, I tried again, and was able to get the on-demand movies.

  31. After reading all these comments, I think I should just try some of the premium stations once in a while on the off chance that they’re free that day.

  32. Didn’t know about this until now. Not sure if I got the email because my family likes to delete emails without reading them. I have been a customer for probably 5 years, and I just checked and I do have HBO. I’m not sure if I will have it until may 31st though.

  33. This HBO preview is still running where I am located. States end date of May 31. Is it normal for an offer like this to run longer ?
